Subject: Cage Dipole Rings
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
The Cage Dipole is an outstanding antenna system that has been in
use in the US Navy for many years. It more recently found its way into
use with the M.A.R.S system.
Description: The Cage Dipole gets it's name from it's appearance,
the dipole consistes of several spreader rings which support 6 to 8
wires in a circular arrangement, most antennas in the 80 to 40 meter
band will require 8 to 10 rings. Once assembled it resembles a cage.
Advantages: The Cage Dipole once assembled (on 12 inch rings for
example) acts as though it has a single conductor that is 12 inches in
diameter. The result is a exceptionally broadbanded design! My 12 inch
system operates across the entire 80 meter band without the need to
retune. The large capture area of the antenna makes for an unsurpassed
receive antenna as well.
Finding the rings is the tough part. If you are interested in this
type antenna or want help locating the spreader rings leave e-mail here
or on prodigy (UWKJ62A) or give me a call at (901) 476-7171.
Thanks Dave (KC4LTC)

Interesting. I've seen this antenna in old photographs of
ham and commercial stations; the older QST covers ocassionally
showed one, too. Must be a bit on the heavy side.

I wish I was close enough to come get them. I would like to read some of
the old articles RE: VHF Weak Signal work and the many "Firsts"
accomplished back then. Hope you find a good home for them. If you don't
mind, Let me know who takes them off your hands. I am looking for a few
issues and maybe He (She) would pull them out if I sent money for
shipping. Thanks... Tim - NC7K...sk
